Are you interested in modelling the UK’s first transmission-connected battery? We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in Grid Energy Storage to join Professor David Howey’s Group at the Department of Engineering Science in central Oxford. The post is funded by Innovate UK and is fixed-term to 30 June 2022 or for 20 months, whichever is sooner.
The successful candidate will be part of the “Energy Superhub Oxford” Project; pioneering an integrated local solution to link energy supply, storage and use. You will be responsible for analysing battery system data, and developing new electrochemical and thermal simulation models to inform design, sizing, control and optimisation strategies. You will also participate in group activities, project meetings, and external conferences.
You should hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in engineering, physics, mathematics, or an allied discipline. Skills in numerical simulation of battery models and knowledge of object-oriented programming are essential. Knowledge of flow batteries is also desirable.
