The University of Birmingham Centre for Energy Storage (BCES) is recruiting a highly motivated researcher to join a successful research team. BCES is a cross-campus centre with activities covering novel energy storage materials; energy storage components and devices; process integration and optimisation; multiscale modelling and energy informatics; and energy systems and policy analyses. This role will focus on thermal energy storage using composite Phase Change Materials (cPCMs) and composite Thermochemical Materials (cTCMs), particularly device and system design, construction, modelling and optimisation. The position requires an individual with hands on experiences in the design and construction of thermal energy storage devices and systems and high-level modelling skills across material, device and system scales.

Applications are invited from those who either have obtained or about to complete their PhD in an area highly relevant to the main research responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator of complex information and able to coordinate his or her own work with others to engage relevant expertise across the university and beyond.

The post is funded jointly by UKRI and industrial companies. The candidate will have plenty of opportunities to interact with both academic and industrial partners.

This post is full time with funding up to 18 months in the first instance, with scope to extend depending on performance and the availability of further funding.
