WMG is a vibrant, cutting-edge research institution at the University of Warwick. We currently have a newly created post within the Power Electronics Research Group, which offers an exciting opportunity to become involved in delivery of research on the development of low-carbon energy systems.
The Group is leading research in two projects in the field of energy conversion. The first, a two-year Innovate UK project developing low-carbon energy systems for large-scale implementation in the West Midlands is a high-impact flagship project that will inform and enable the routes to system-level zero-carbon energy. The creation of a smart energy system for Coventry will serve as a blueprint for other large-scale initiatives, working towards a revolutionary market-making model which will drive the integration of new energy technologies across the entire energy, transport, and industrial landscape.
The second is an EU-funded project to develop a heat and cold matching service using a software toolkit and developed knowledge to provide a route to low-carbon heating and cooling. This project involves the gathering of industrial information and data, developing an understanding the opportunity for heat storage, conversion and dispatching to industry, domestic users and communities. Our work package will gather and develop this data and use this learning to validate the software toolkit and models.
We are looking for someone to carry out research on energy system modelling including design and testing of models to prove effectiveness and readiness for implementation. You will need a a PhD in a relevant discipline, and experience of Energy System modelling, data analysis and reporting, test methods and procedures, and circuit simulation.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£30,046). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the level 6 of the University grade structure (£30,942).
