Lessons from COVID-19 for Net Zero

May 27th, 2021

COVID-19’s impact on energy demand has created insights which we will discuss based on CREDS current research evidence.

About this event

Lessons from COVID-19 for Net Zero will be the first opportunity to hear about findings from across the CREDS consortium on the impact of COVID on energy demand. We will invite your feedback and there will be opportunities for discussion.

There will be short presentations from researchers who have conducted this work in CREDS’ Transport and MobilityBuildings and Energy and Digital Society themes. We’ll also share findings from integrative work done by Cambridge Econometrics (on behalf of CREDS) about how the economy might recover in line with our net zero targets. Together, this work is creating a broader narrative on how energy demand has shifted during the pandemic, with implications (and new research questions) for other societal impacts (such as fuel/ transport poverty, racial injustice, rebound effects).

We see this event as an opportunity to:

• discuss the emerging evidence from CREDS on the impact of COVID on UK energy use

• share findings from your research through the discussion

• take away ideas and contacts to inform your research

• identify consistent, complementary messages on energy research for stakeholder engagement.

We are separately running a parallel event for policy makers with a similar ambition to feed into policy. Both events will contribute to a policy briefing we will produce on this issue, to which you will be invited to contribute should you so wish.
