Communicating your research, workshop for Supergen early career researchers
The Supergen programme has organised for The Conversation to provide training for early career researchers on how to communicate science effectively, and connect research to wider narratives such as climate change and the race to net zero, delivered over the course of two workshops.
This is an opportunity to develop your communication skills and convey important messages from your research, with the aim of demonstrating impact and making your research accessible to non-expert audiences, whilst networking with early career researchers from across the Supergen programme.
The training will be delivered over the course of two workshops:
Session 1: 16 July 21, 10:30-12:00 BST
The first session is an introductory seminar where we will discuss how to distil research into a compelling narrative (either in the form of a media pitch or video script) that is accessible to the general public.
Session 2: 23 July 21, 10:30-12:00 BST or 13:00-14:30 BST
The second session is a more interactive workshop, with participants attending a breakout group on either pitches to the media or two-minute video scripts. Depending on which second session they attend, participants would need to prepare in advance either a short (200-word) media pitch or video script (250-300 words) based on their research and in line with the material from session one. In each group, we will go through some of the pitches/scripts and discuss what works/doesn’t work and ways to improve upon them.
Places are limited, therefore if you are interested in attending please email Dan Taylor, Supergen COP26 Engagement Manager via [email protected] to check your eligibility and register your interest.
